A popular place to visit in Northern Thailand are the Long Neck villages. These are actually refugee camps housing displaced people from neighboring Burma.

All seems well, the folk are happy enough sitting patiently all dressed up in traditional costume selling handcrafted goods to the tourist who come to take pictures.

You pay some money to the Thai government to enter the camp and take your pictures of the women folk with the rings around there necks. As you leave the village you may begin to feel a little uneasy.... its a human zoo these are real people with no electricity, proper sanitation or decent water supply and the women are not even allowed to leave the village.
Under the terms of international law its illegal to take photographs of refugees in camps.

This girl speaks perfect English and answers elegantly questions about the rings around her neck, she must have been asked the same questions hundreds of times before.

A woman wearing a red or black signifies she is married, single women wear white.
